Feb. 16, 2010 (St. Louis, MO) -- GO! St. Louis a local non-profit organization and community wellness advocate will partner with MERS Goodwill to launch an exciting new program for 2010. The “Share A Pair” program invites area residents to donate their gently-used shoes in the hope of collecting 20,010 pairs of shoes in 2010. The shoes will go to MERS Goodwill to help fund its mission of assisting local people to find work and live more independently.

“In celebration of GO! St. Louis’ tenth anniversary, we wanted to create a community-wide program that would inspire the region to get involved, while ultimately providing special services to those in need,” said Nancy Lieberman, GO! St. Louis president. “MERS Goodwill is a perfect partner in the shoe donation drive, while helping us to encourage participants to think about getting healthy and fit,” she continued.

Beginning in early February, the “Share A Pair” Shoe Mobile will travel to select locations and companies throughout the metro area to accept shoe donations. The Shoe Mobile is a rolling receptacle for shoes, which can be situated in any corporate lobby, mall or at special events. MERS Goodwill staff will be responsible for delivering the” Shoe Mobile” to participating locations and collection of the shoes.

Dr. Lewis Chartock, President and CEO at MERS Goodwill, says the shoes will be sold in MERS Goodwill Stores throughout the metro area. “Gently worn athletic shoes are preferred, but any size or style will be welcomed. Shoes that are not wearable will be recycled.”

The Shoe Mobile will make its debut at the Solae company on February 17. Other organizations participating include H.D.A. and Maritz. Any company or organization interested in hosting the Shoe Mobile can call 314-821-8232, extension 3.

In addition to the Shoe Mobile visiting area companies, it will also be available to the general public throughout the metro region during 2010. The Shoe Mobile will be at the following locations this spring:

Chesterfield Mall – March 1-14
South County Center – March 15-31
St. Anthony’s Hospital – May 31-June 11

Individuals can also donate shoes at the GO! St. Louis Family Fitness Weekend downtown and at the GO! St. Louis Health and Fitness Expo at the Chaifetz Center at St. Louis University, #1 South Compton Avenue, on April 10 and 11.

Additional locations will be announced as they are added throughout 2010. Please check gostlouis.org for additional program details, including a list of participating companies.
