ST. LOUIS (MO) – February 16, 2010 – GO! St. Louis, a not-for-profit organization that specializes in presenting fitness events and programs announced today that 2,500 additional registration spots have been opened for the 2010 half marathon race, set for Sunday, April 11. The half marathon race, presented by National City (Now PNC) is the largest of the ten different races presented during the 10th annual GO! St. Louis Family Fitness Weekend. The half marathon had originally sold out in record-breaking time at 10,000 participants on Feb. 2. The additional spots will be available online only at gostlouis.org, starting Friday, February 19 at 10 am, central.

“We are excited that we were able to collaborate with the City of St. Louis, Metropolitan Police Department of St. Louis and the St. Louis Fire Department to make modifications to the race course, which will allow us to expand the field,” said Nancy Lieberman, GO! St. Louis president. “The interest in our event is at an all-time high and it’s gratifying to know that thousands of additional people have the opportunity to reach their fitness goals, because area officials recognized the importance of presenting a high-quality event that showcases our region to more than 23,000 participants,” she continued.

The two-day fitness event, set for April 10 & 11, 2010, has become a national model for other organizations, and features 10 different races for all ages and fitness levels. The event started in 2000 with 2,500 participants and has grown to more than 20,000 competitors. The GO! St. Louis Family Fitness Weekend features a marathon – presented by SUBWAY, half marathon – presented by National City (now part of PNC), Marathon Relay-presented by Lockton Companies, 5K Run/Walk – presented by Reliv International, GO! St. Louis Read, Right and Run Marathon® presented by Centene Corporation, Children’s Fun Runs and a Mature Mile presented by Essence Healthcare.

Overall registrations for all of the events are trending well-ahead of last year, which was the largest in the organization’s history. Participation race caps for the marathon (3,000), marathon relay (500 teams) and the 5K Run/Walk (2,000) will not be increased, so individuals are encouraged to register now to avoid missing the event, which is Missouri’s largest annual fitness event.
