GoSTL.jpgGO! St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon® and Middle School Milers highlight organization’s long-standing commitment to youth fitness - ST. LOUIS, Mo, – GO! St. Louis, a local not-for-profit organization that specializes in providing fitness events and programs for the region on a year-round basis, announced that the GO! St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon presented by Express Scripts, with support from Ameren and Mercy, has increased the number of schools and students participating in the nationally-acclaimed program, with more than 15,000 students in kindergarten through 5th grade.

The newly-created Middle School Milers program is focused on students in 6-8 grades, with the final goal of completing the GO! St. Louis 5K on April 5 in Forest Park. More than 500 students are taking part in the first-year program.

The innovative Read, Right & Run Marathon was started in 2001, and strives to develop reading-proficient, community-minded and physically fit children by challenging them to READ 26 books, RIGHT the community with 26 good deeds, and RUN 26.2 miles over a six-month period. The program is a standards-based, sustainable, enrichment program that supports existing school curriculum. In fact, a majority of the St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS) adopted this program and integrated it into their grades K-5 core curriculum. The program has grown each year in both numbers of schools and students participating. Every student receives a journal to not only record books read, deeds completed and miles run, but also to engage in other fun learning activities. Each of the more than 200 participating schools has designated a coordinator or team to carry out the program successfully.

Express Scripts has been the presenting sponsor of the Read, Right & Run Marathon program for the last three years, and their commitment extends well beyond a financial contribution. Express Scripts employees, volunteer their time on race day to ensure the students enjoy their experience.

“Our Express Scripts employees are excited to work with children and help them on the right path for a lifelong love of reading, community service and good health,” said Susan Stith, Senior Director, Diversity, Inclusion and Corporate Giving at Express Scripts. “We are honored to be a part of an event that is aligned with our commitment to driving better decisions and healthier outcomes.”

Overall, the GO! St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon, Middle School Milers and the Students on the GO! programs complete the series of youth programs that the organization offers to students year-round. To learn more about these programs, visit
