Big River Christmas Lights Run

Big River Running.jpgST. LOUIS - (December 19) - The Big River Christmas Lights Run is TONIGHT at 6:00pm at the South City store. A 3 mile and 5 mile option that weave their way through the best (and brightest!) streets in beautiful St. Louis Hills. The run will once again be collecting warm clothing for the US Marine Corps Clothing Drive. As always, hot cocoa and cookies will be provided to all participants.

Northwest Missouri State University.jpgAMES, Iowa – A pair of Northwest Missouri State men 800 meter runners finished in the top five, along with Will Haer’s runner-up finish in the pole vault, highlighted the opening weekend at the Cyclone Holiday Preview. Taylor Overmiller and Derek Roberts finished second and third in the 800m run for Northwest, behind Truman State’s Matthew Shaefer. Overmiller was neck-and-neck with Shaefer who took first-place with a time of 1:57.57, while Overmiller was just behind with a time of 1:57.89. Roberts was also just seconds behind at 2:00.79.

The Telegraph - A pair of area runners won the challenging 7.5-mile Pere Marquette Endurance Trail Run for the fifth time Saturday at Pere Marquette State Park. Dan Rooney, 51, of O'Fallon, won the men's race in 53:32; Judy Dorphinghaus, 42, of Washington, Mo., won the women's race in 1 hour and 22 seconds; Curt Schneider, 36, of St. Charles, Mo., was second overall with a time of 54:45 and Mike Kalik, 26, of Carlinville, was third overall with a time of 55:06.

MoMileSplit.com - As the defending state cross champion, Samantha Nightingale made it known that she was focusing her senior campaign on the national stage. Nightingale’s stepping stones included setting an early PR and reclaiming the Class 4 title. That’s when the Blue Springs South senior could turn her attention to the postseason and trying to return to the Nike Cross Nationals and improving on last year’s 19th-place finish. She accomplished every goal including an 8th place finish Saturday at Nike nationals in Portland, Ore. For those accomplishments, Nightingale has been named the mo.milesplit.com girls cross country runner of the year.

GoStLouisLogo.jpgST. LOUIS - Registration for the 12th Annual GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend, set for April 14 & 15 is currently open. The event is Missouri’s largest competitive fitness event, with more than 25,000 total participants. The popular half marathon presented by PNC Bank had 13,500 registrants last year, making it one of the largest 13.1 fields in the U.S. Many of the races sellout in advance so be sure to secure a spot soon. Registration fees increase after December 31.

LOUIS - There is still time to register for the St. Louis Track Club Frostbite Series which consists of five different road races held on alternating Saturdays from December to February in Forest Park. Series competitors select from two categories based on distance: the short series (3K to 4M) and the long series (12K to Half Marathon).
