New Balance Indoor GP celebrates real track and field in the Women’s 60 meters
One of the things that many bemoan is the lack of reality in some sports. Not so with track and field. In most cases, if you are up to snuff and do not make it through the rounds, in a track or field event, you do not advance.

Take the women’s 60 meters at THE TRACK at New Balance.
It was one of the toughest fields that I have seen indoors in years.
In heat one, Aleia Hobbs, the fastest 60m indoors in the world in 2023, cranked a 7.08, with Celera Barnes at 7.21, Kiara Parker at 7.22, Candace Hill, at 7.25 and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone in 7.33.

Yes, that Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, 4 World Records at the 400m hurdles, golds in Olympics, Worlds and not thinking of the 400 meters flat. Sydney did not move on, not because she is not the finest 400m hurdler in the world, but because at 60 meters, she is not even beginning her top speed.
In heat two, Mikiah Brisco won in 7.15, Kayla While in 7.21, Melissa Jefferson, 7.25 and Athonique Strachan was fourth in 7.32. 2022 WC at 200 meters, Shericka Jackson, in 7.34, did not advance.

Interview by World Athletics at the 2023 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix.
Track & Field is real, like an e.e. cummings poem. Honest, brutal, and transparent is when our sport is at its best.
And yes, I think Aleia Hobbs is going to fly this year!
